Obrillant DAMUS Université de Paris 8 |
BIOGRAPHY
Born in Petit-Goave (Haiti), Obrillant DAMUS successfully completed his bachelor’s degree at the State University of Haiti, Department of Applied Linguistics. He received a certificate of excellence from The Haitian Students Association for being the laureate of the admission contest organized by the fore mentioned department. It is this honor that allowed him to be the recipient of a four-year scholarship (2001-2005) sponsored by the French government.
In 2006, Obrillant received a grant from the French government to pursue his Master of Science degree at The University of the West Indies and Guiana (UAG). With the support of Pascal Saffache, the Dean of the college of Humanities and Social Sciences, Obrillant was able to secure a scholarship from the French Embassy in Haiti. This scholarship helped him complete his second Masters (M2) at the University of Paris 8. His MA thesis explored the subject of medical ethnology/anthropology and was prized by the organization Cancéropôle Île-de-France, recognizing Obrillant’s accomplishments and his potential contributions to the scientific community.
In March 2008 the International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF) awarded Obrillant a literary prize during the commemoration of the International Day of the Francophonie in the presence of his Excellency Mister Abdou Diouf, the secretary general of the Organization. The French president Nicolas Sarkozy also attended this commemoration.
Two years ago, Obrillant worked as an intern at the French Association of Sociology (AFS). He is working, since November 2009, as an intern and volunteer at the National League Against Cancer under the supervision of Doctor Marc Keller, the appointed personnel in charge of international affairs and health and social services.
Currently, Obrillant is a second year PhD student at the University of Paris 8. He is working on his dissertation. His research project focuses on the relationships between solidarity and cancer in Haiti. He has already published several books in France. Besides, he has already pronounced several conferences, participated in several colloquiums in France and in the USA.
